Dawes Design was engaged to design a 3rd storey extension to this 1960’s B/V home. The brief was to create a new 3rd level master bedroom & parents retreat, ensuite & walk in robe. This 3rd level was to be designed to maximise views to the south east over the township of Warragul & to views to Mount Worth. The 3rd level was wrapped with a large balcony structure to the east & south with glass balustrading. It is a stunning view.
We believed this home needed a greater presence & street appeal so we centralised the entry & created a large timber lined cantilevered steel & timber portico structure that floated out over the new landscape. The new central entry was enclosed & we created 2 separate living zones off this entry. To the left of the entry we remodelled the existing living & incorporated a new large study with full height glazing to both the north & south to the views to the town & hills. To the right of the entry we demolished the old small kitchen & extended the space to create an open plan kitchen & family area, this area was divided with a new staircase from the level 1 garage to level 2, the level 2 to level 3 staircase was the feature full height glazing that is spectacular and fitting of this new space. The new dining area to the north incorporated full height glazing stacker sliding doors opening to an operable roof alfresco space with inbuilt bbq area. The existing other bedrooms to level 2 now incorporated WIRs and dual access bathrooms. We re-purposed an old bedroom/ increased since and converted it to a theatre room. The new bathroom, laundry & powder room continued the new style of the home.
The new 3 storey staircase also accompanied a new high end disabled access lift over all 3 levels. Finally the garage level was re-designed from a 2 car garage into a large 4 car garage with a separated by a large workshop, storage area & music space.
This won the Housing awards for best renovation & extension in its category in the Housing Awards, which we expected, it was a stunning transformation!
